Today’s card is The Fool, number 0 of the Major Arcana, also known as the Spirit of Aether or the Crown of Wisdom. Each of the Major Arcana cards represents a principle in occult worship or enlightenment, with this card being the 22nd and final card of the Majors, which are numbered 0 – 21. When studying these principles, one would start with the number 0, The Fool, representing innocence, the beginning of a journey, and the initiate, and ending with number 21, The Universe. Having traveled through the theoretical concepts of Magick, therefore, one would need only to apply these principles in real life to move forward on the path of enlightenment.
The Fool is the beginning of matters in both a material and an ethereal sense. It tells us that we must first recognize that we know nothing in order to open ourselves to the lessons that Magick and the Universe have to teach us. It also speaks to us with regards to faith in that, in order to be open to esoteric training and its rewards, you must first admit and affirm a belief in a power that is greater than you. Whether you call it God, Goddess, Eternal Parent, Divine Creator, or any of the names that have been used throughout time, this important factor allows you to accept the idea that Magick (Miracle) is possible, that the power of the Aether is working to align the Elements of the material world to your advantage. This acknowledgement also signifies that you are willing to own the responsibility of your actions on the path to enlightenment and will be held accountable for the intent and purpose behind your Magick. This is why the Fool is known as the Spirit of Aether and the Crown of Wisdom. Once you gain the knowledge of magickal philosophy, it is up to you to use it in a wise manner, always thinking of the ripple effect that occurs when you affect change in your environment.
Today this card appears to remind us to admit our ignorance, ask questions, and keep an open mind so that we are receptive to the lessons that will be offered to us at this time. It tells us that new beginnings are possible, that opportunities for change and growth appear all the time, and it is up to us to look for them with the wide eyes of a child, anxious to soak every bit of knowledge thrown their way. If you have been considering taking a step forward on your journey to faith, now is a time for you to seek a teacher, one that will aid you in finding your own inner Truth and advance your connection with the Divine.
On the flip side, this card is warning us to not take everyone at their word without asking questions. Remember when choosing a teacher that not all who claim to be enlightened actually are; some are just in it for the power and recognition it will provide their egos. Some of the more eccentric ones, while seeming to be in an enviable position, are really tripping on a Messiah complex and no one around them has the stones to tell it like it is. Often, people who encounter this teacher are taken in because they don’t think for themselves. They are attracted to the show but don’t have the independent spirit that is required to stand up and admit that they disagree with the leader or group. They are sheep! Beware of this type of teacher. They will ultimately set you back as you struggle to grow and they struggle to outshine you and everyone else.
May this comedic figure encourage you to look at things with child-like wonder today!
