Today’s card is The Dreamer, number twenty-three of the Major Arcana. In a more traditional tarot deck, the Major Arcana number twenty-two. However, The Dreamer is one of two that have been added by the creators of The Shapeshifter deck, making twenty-four the total number of cards in the Major Arcana. These ‘Majors’ are used as a teaching tool to introduce the initiate (seeker) to the principles of occult worship. Each represents a point along our evolutionary path as magickal beings and discussed the science, and the mysticism, that work in tune to guide our journey as spiritual seekers. As in any tarot deck, this journey begins with Initiation (The Fool), representing innocence and new beginnings. But while the Major Arcana have a finite number, the journey through them continually begins again as the spiral of our existence plays out.
The keywords for this card are Communication, Metamorphosis, Continuity, and Prophecy. Here we see a beautiful woman standing in the Goddess position with arms stretched upward; in her hands, she delicately holds aloft the Full Moon. Ideas in the form of birds fly freely in the distance, representing the boundless potential of the human mind. The swan/maiden motif is a common legend in many cultures worldwide; the tail of Angus Or and Caer in Celtic mythology is one such tail. These tails revolve around the metamorphosis of a young woman from the swan, graceful creature of purity. This swan/woman is surrounded and protected by three trees as she stands enveloped in surreal light; these trees represent the Threefold One as do her necklace, earrings, and belt.
The Dreamer card signifies the powerful and purposeful merging of the conscious mind with the subconscious shown here by the lack of division between the pond and the trees. Nature mirrors the mind and there is no separation between the dreaming and waking worlds. All is connected to Oneness and there exists an ever-flowing collective well of energy that every dreamer can tap into at will.
This card signals a time of deep communication with all the parts of yourself. The release of your true spirit and dreams is coming to fruition. You may find no division between your dreaming and waking worlds as you begin to walk your ‘dream’ path more clearly. Your dreams will become with clarity and vividness, just as if you are walking through them in the waking world. Notice all the similarities and differences between the two; lucid and dimensional dreaming can naturally lead to metamorphosis and shapeshifting. Be mindful of what you dream during the day (daydreaming) and at night; dreams at this time especially have a way of coming true. This is a good time to employ the old saying ‘watch what you wish for; you just might get it’.
May the Goddess bless you with your closest and truest dreams at this time!
