The Aeon

The Aeon

Today’s card is the Aeon, also known as the Lord of Primal Fire, number twenty of the Major Arcana. Each of the Major Arcana cards represents a principle in occult worship or enlightenment, with this card being the 22nd and final card of the Majors, which are numbered 0 – 21. When studying these principles, one would start with the number 0, The Fool, representing innocence, the beginning of a journey, and the initiate, and ending with number 21, The Universe. Having traveled through the theoretical concepts of Magick, therefore, one would need only to apply these principles in real life to move forward on the path of enlightenment.

This card teaches us about the relationship between the four planes of existence and how they are used to influence events in the physical world. These Planes, or ‘Elements’, are interconnected at all times but each has its own domain. Earth, the physical plane is in the lowest position from a vibrational standpoint followed by Water (the emotional plane), Air (the intellectual plane), and Fire (the spiritual plane). This card is sometimes read as ‘a matter decided on its own plane’. This means that while an illness may have been labeled by your physician as incurable, there may be a spiritual means by which you can be healed. By applying to the level above the problem, one may find solutions to the problems in a lower plane of existence.

This card also tells us that Magick is to be used as a last resource or boost, not the first line of effort. Say that you are looking for a job, one that will allow you more satisfaction at your current monetary level. You can certainly petition the Element of Earth to find you another job, but then you have to actually go through the motions of putting out a resume, attending interviews, and considering your possibilities. Sitting on the couch waiting for your perfect job to magickally appear will probably not produce the results you are looking for. Start with the lowest plane that applies to your situation, work within the limits of what you can actually accomplish, and then ask for assistance or intervention from the Spirits. This may help you land the ideal position as you go through the motions of job hunting.

I will say at this point that certain people believe that you should only work Magick for others and that asking for what you need or want is selfish and has consequences. I highly disagree with this harsh philosophy and put forth that, until you know that you can work effective magick on your own behalf, you have no idea how the magick will influence others. Be specific in asking for what you want, then be sure to thank the Universe for the blessings you will receive.

Finally this card symbolized a transition from one Age to another. It signals the coming of the Age of Aquarius which will take time and labor pains to birth but which will begin to finalize our ascension to the next level. Those who are attuned to the changes that are occurring on a massive scale will benefit at this time from a recharge of energy and direction. Be selective who you share your knowledge with but definitely share; we want to usher in the next Age with speed and grace.

May your day be blessed with awakening and Magick!
