Ten of Earth

Ten of Earth

Today’s card is the Ten of Earth (Pentacles, Disks), also known as Wealth. This Element is the base of the Minor Arcana and rules over home, hearth, and family, job, finance, and prosperity, and physical health and well being, birth, death, and rebirth. In working our way through the lessons of the tarot, we discover that the human journey starts in this Element as we learn to feed and clothe ourselves, care for ourselves through continence and hygiene, and to communicate our needs to others by relating love, pain, fear, and joy. While all other Elements are at play in this process, our journey must be based on solid footing, on roots firmly placed in the Mother, if we are to grow and be healthy.

The keywords for this card are Abundance, Gain, Family, Strength, and Home. This lovely card is one that is truly positive in nature. A symbol of the rising, regenerative sun, this woman is shapeshifting into a Phoenix. Legend has it that a small worm crawls from the ashes of the dead phoenix and grows into its new self. By her side stands a large stone (Earth) on which spirals have been carved; these spirals are mirrored on the ground beneath her, weaving Wealth together and representing the flow of Universal energy and the DNA helix.

Next to the stone is a tree filled with golden fruit from which the divine phoenix-woman is feasting; the apple tree and the shapeshifter seem to both be growing from the Earth under them. This is the sacred tree of Avalon (the Otherworld) and apples are considered food of the Gods. In Welsh mythology, the Consort is given three apples to eat by the Goddess, Rhiannon and, each year after, he spent three months in the Otherworld and nine months on Earth. Three cranes can also be seen flying overhead, one carrying a golden bowl in its beak. These cranes represent the threefold: birth, death, and rebirth; Maiden, Mother, and Crone; Son (Acolyte), Father, and Grandfather (Sage); positive, negative, and neutral. In the small bowl rides the blood of Tarvos the Bull, Golden One and symbol of the Sun, so that the it will be ever reborn.

By gaining rapport with the Earth element, you invite and welcome wealth and prosperity into your life. This is a good time to invest in property, a home, or a new business. Through communication and organization, it becomes an optimum time to manifest abundance in your life. Look for material prosperity by way of good investments, gain, or riches to come in the next few days. This is also a sign of lineage and family honor and could signal an inheritance. As this is also a card of healing, this is a good time to invest in and look for inspiration from your home environment.

May the spirits of Earth heap blessings upon you and all who dwell in your home today!
