Today’s card is the Seven of Disks, also known as the Lord of Failure or the Lord of Success Unfulfilled. Disks represent the Element of Earth which rules over our physical and material lives. Thus it rules over growing things: gardening, farming, animal husbandry, also construction and other forms of physical labor, physical health, child rearing, and the weather. It also rules over the practical side of creating and maintaining a home, job, finance, budgeting, banking, and business ownership.
While it is not common for the Disks to represent the emotions, this particular card speaks to us of love misguided. This card is ruled by Saturn in Venus. Saturn is a planet of lack and inhibition and Taurus is ruled by Venus which rules over matters of love; when the two are combined, they result in a lack of love that is due to psychological or sexual inhibition or dysfunction. Therefore the magickal aspect of this card deals with how to overcome these obstacles to bring love into your life. And while yesterday’s card dealt with romance and scorned love, this one’s meaning is related to bringing mor love into your life.
Throughout history, there are tales of humans who are loved by a God/Goddess or Earth Spirit. Most commonly, these tales told of the human being unable to love another, for the Earth Spirit or God would make ill work of any potential love interest. These spirits, such as dryads, naemads, dwarves, satyrs, nymphs, angels, or daemons, were known to put a stumbling block in romantic paths and mislead potential love mates using foolery or deception. This manifested in a person who could attract a suitable mate or love interest but was thwarted in the long run with the relationship falling apart or suffering a bad fate before the romance can be consummated or fulfilled.
There is another aspect to this card, however, that is more likely and more mundane. All too often, we find that we have fallen for someone who is totally wrong for us. The house of Taurus also rules over money and it is an old saying, ‘lucky at cards, unlucky at love’ that fits this principle quite succinctly. Therefore we may find that we have given our hearts to someone who’s personality is not a match for our own, or we discover that this person is just bad; no moral judgement, no internal compass to guide them toward a positive future, and no ethic to control their impulses to laziness and over indulgence. Magickally, the solution to this situation is a simple one; around noon when The Sun is nice and bright, climb to the top of a hill and lay on your back so that you can only see the sky. Lie still and wait for the Earth to move. it may take a few minutes so be patient. The feeling, however, is unmistakable. It is something like a small personal earthquake and is noticeably energetic. After that, you can descend the hill.
This is the whole of the spell. Like the song says, “I feel the Earth move under my feet… whenever you’re around”. In this case, we have felt it undone and the feelings that you have for. This unsuitable mate should lessen more each day until you are open to exploring new love interests.
The upside of this card is that you may be experiencing a delay right now in financial plans; there is growth but it is happening under the surface and is taking longer than you wish. Be patient; not all is as it seems and though you hard work may not pay off well in a monetary way, you are going to be rewarded with growth in other areas of your life, including spirituality.
On the flip side, if you are in the beginning stages of planning a business venture or merger, this card indicated miscalculation, either due to lacking all the facts or because some game of deception is being played by your potential partner (s). Be sure to take a second look at any endeavor that may be in the works right now. You may want to explore other avenues of financing, or scrap your project altogether until you find someone to work with that you trust.
May your day be filled with promise in your love life if not your bank account!
