One of Fire

One of Fire

Today’s card is the One of Fire (Swords), also known as The Sacred Flame. In the traditional tarot deck, this card would be known as the Ace of Wands and the suit of Swords would represent the Element of Air. However, in the case of the Shapeshifter deck, these elements have been switched; the deck’s creators have used Wands for Air and Swords for Fire. Fire represents the Spirit as the fourth phase of our spiritual journey; it empowers creation, passion, and sexual desire, strength, courage, and power, purging and purity, forging and manipulation, the ‘Aha!’ moment and the changing of one thing into another.

The keywords for this card are Emotion, Energy, and Triumph. In this electrifying scene, our shapeshifter is merging with and ancient oak as she receives a heavenly jolt of lightening. She does so willingly for there is no fear, only the joy of celestial illumination as she sees her destiny and contemplates it with widespread arms. Mistletoe grows entwined with the Osaka, symbolic of regeneration and rebirth. The oak itself represents longevity, but also and more importantly, the entire span of all the lives lived by each human. It is also connected with the Woodland Goddess and the Lord of the Wood.

This initiate is learning how to connect her feminine and masculine sides to bring herself into harmony with Nature and the elements. This ability is a prime prerequisite for working magick. Her feet are merged on both sides with solid stone, the place of primordial Goddess power. The golden spiritual light fusing itself into the ground below her; signifying a firm foundation permeated with illumination. A bull stand beside our initiate, his horns an ancient symbol of the Goddess and the Moon. To the Celts, this bull also signifies strength and potency; it hide was often used during certain divinatory rites. Thus, this bull has its feet in the mists of time and the Otherworld and its body and head in reality. This represents the initiate’s potential to reach across time and space for divinatory answers and spiritual information.
