Today’s card is the Nine of Cups, also known as the Lord of Happiness. Cups represent the Element of Water which rules over the heart and matters of love, friendship, compassion, and healing, charm, beauty, entertainment, and the arts, including the Occult. Thus, while Fire is the Creative Force, Water is the emotion that inspires us to Create. All art forms use symbolism, whether through paint, music, poetry, acting, or dance, which in turn connects with the subconscious mind, where magick occurs.
This card is often known as the ‘Wish’ card in that it symbolizes a successful conclusion to a love affair when found in a conventional reading of one’s future. In the selection of wedding rings, this card denotes the fact that pure gold or silver are best used to form such a bond and that the act of ‘Blessing the Rings’ is an additional important factor in supporting the success of the marriage they are used to symbolize. The Catholic Church practices this tradition so you can be certain that, if this spell works for the Christian God, others may benefit from this as well. Any psychometric worth their salt will be able to tell you if your rings have been blessed or not. But you, as your own priest or priestess, can do the job yourself. This process is to be done outdoors, preferably in a safe spot on your own property. Set up an altar of your own construction, a table or flat rock will do. Make sure it facing West, the direction of Water an Love. Place both rings on the altar when the Sun and Moon are both clearly in the sky (the local paper should tell you the times for rise and set of both), and hold your left hand(s) over the rings. Then say this prayer or one of your own choosing with similar intent:
“May these rings be a source of joy and happiness to both giver and receiver. May they be worn in the radiance of love, and in the sweetness of fidelity (this part can be left out if you practice polyamory), and may the powers of Lady Isis bless these rings now and forevermore.”
Leave the rings overnight if you can; if not, leave them for as long as is prudent and them place them back on your hands or, if this is done pre-wedding, into the boxes until it is time for the ceremony.
This card also represents happiness other forms and thus rules over all professions that are domestic in nature. If you are a dress-maker or tailor, own a hair or nail salon, work in food service, run a daycare center or a home cleaning service, or practice any number of other ‘domestic’ careers, this card is a sure sign that things are looking up for you today. You may also be in for a health boost if you have been feeling under the weather or sense of security where you have been feeling a bit uncomfortable.
Even on the flip side, this is a happy card. At most, it signals that you are a victim of complacency or poor judgement. This allows you to take a step back and analyze your approach today in a ‘penalty-free’ energy space and figure out how you can course correct or infuse your project or goal with renewed excitement and vigor.
May you be blessed with much happiness today and always!
