Initiation

Initiation

Today’s card is Initiation, number Zero of the Major Arcana. In a more traditional tarot deck, this card is also known as The Fool. The Major Arcana are used as a teaching tool to introduce the initiate to the principles of occult worship. Each represents a point along our evolutionary path as magickal beings and discussed the science, and the mysticism, that work in tune to guide our journey as spiritual seekers. As in any tarot deck, this journey begins with Initiation (The Fool), representing innocence and new beginnings. But while the Major Arcana have a finite number, the journey through them continually begins again as the spiral of our existence play out.

The keywords for this card are Potential, Possibilities, and New Beginnings. The initiate seen here can be seen as an androgynous being, neither male or female; this is one of the many realizations that is necessary to experience a true initiation. The initiate has taken the first step into the realm of shapeshifting, part of this higher initiation. Powerful dragon energy is working within, giving spiritual strength, determination, and courage to face the inner self. This leads to a higher cycle of existence as a human being. By flowing with the dragon, the initiate has reached into the core of spiritual fire, grasped the living flame, and pulled it from him in the form of a wand or sword, held in his left hand. This symbol of directed willpower and knowledge will aid the initiate as they continue to walk the path of magick and spiritual growth.

In his right hand is an apple; it represents rebirth and reincarnation. The neckline of his robe is decorated with a design similar to the Celtic torc, itself s stylized snake devouring his own tale in a sign of eternity. Emerging from the ocean, signifying the water of life, the initiate is also beginning to master his emotions, ruled by water. He rises above the sea cliffs, a sign of materialistic way of living, as rose petals, a symbol of accomplished desire, fall around the Shapeshifter. Following behind are a myriad of energy bubbles, leading back to Source. Messengers from the Gods in the form of seagulls boy above, and nearby float a butterfly and dragonfly, both symbols of rebirth and reincarnation.

This card tells us that, as an initiate, we are learning to control our willpower in order to accomplish our goals. A new cycle of life or being is upon you; use the wisdom of the Dragon when applying strength, courage, and power in order to ensure positive results. Listen to the messages from Source for guidance and remember that all humans live a multitude of cycles within each lifetime.

May this fresh beginning be a time of spiritual awakening and may the wonder of discovery bring you joy!
