Today will be another two-fer! Yesterday, I actually did what the Sunday card, The Hermit, said:
“While an hourglass was an identifying feature on the earliest Hermit Tarot cards, more modern cards have shifted the metaphor, showing more or less light released from his lantern. In either case, the Hermit card reminds us of the value of time away from the hubbub of civic life, and to relax the ego in communion with nature. Give yourself time for contemplation”. (I did laundry, rested, and reflected on the time I just had at festival. While the rain was certainly a challenge, I was blessed with new friends and new knowledge).
“The challenge of The Hermit card, number nine of the Major Arcana, is to be able to recognize a teacher in a humble disguise. This fountain of mysterious knowledge will not make it easy for the student to acquire his wisdom, as it takes time and long contemplation to fathom what he knows. He often speaks wordlessly, or in ancient and barbaric tongues, communicating with the elements, animals, and nature herself”. (In my case, I was blessed to become reacquainted with a wisdom teacher that I have known throughout my entire journey, and he will be making some new connections for me at Starwood from the Cincinnati area that might further my knowledge and help blossom my dreams and goals.)
The Hermit advises that you think things through carefully. The demands on you have been high, giving you scant time for reflection. While you have a gift for understanding the larger implications involved, you need some private time to consider the steps to take in the future. You can’t just lock yourself in your room for fifteen minutes and expect to come up with profound solutions. You need more seclusion and time to assimilate and process. Now may be the moment for you to tell everyone to leave you alone. When you are fully ready, you will be able and willing to give others what they need. (This, of course is impossible for me right now except in the silence of my home, where I have stopped turning on the TV during the daytime hours and take time to listen to my own thoughts as well as any guidance I might be receiving from Spirit. I hope to have some time at Starwood to relax, attend some workshops, and solidify what my next steps will be).
Monday’s card is the Six of Pentacles, also known as Coins or Disks. This suit represents something supportive that is available to you, whether it be health, some kind of talent, a material or financial resource. This is a card of patronage but of generosity with strings attached. The picture shows a rich man giving alms, his reputation enhanced from his giving, but without having helped anybody really better him or herself. Sometimes there is an inference that the giver will be expecting something back for his giving, perhaps even sexual favors.
Sometimes this card is interpreted as referring to some kind of patron or benefactor who rescues a talented person from oblivion, but then wants to dictate what the artist works on as his fame grows. Inequality of power is generally a factor in this card, and the person being helped needs to be careful not to trade off heart and soul for a shortcut to fame or fortune. Each player in this scenario needs to examine the possibility they are taking one side or the other in an unbalanced power struggle.
Think of yourself as someone who can assist others in refining their skills and talents and using them successfully. The Six of Coins asks you to think of yourself as a cosmic talent agent, seeking individuals who show a spark or gift. You may help them refine and upgrade their skills to fit a larger context. The outcome is a peer relationship with a sense of mutual regard and admiration. This is a delicate operation and you have to constantly check your intentions so that you are not expecting something in return. Do not for a minute feel proud about doing someone a favor. In truth what you are doing is paying back an old debt to those who served as your mentors and helpers.
When these two cards combine, they are telling you to reflect on solutions that do not compromise the truth and integrity, the ‘heart and soul’, of your goal so that you can breathe a temporary sigh of relief. This will lead to long term regret and a stifling of the mission as a whole. Take time to hear your thought, to relax into your truth, and to contemplate your next move before making any serious changes or decisions. Trust that the Divine has your back and wait a bit for inspiration on a different approach to come from higher self or from Spirit. Lean in to the journey and keep your eyes, and heart, open for a better opportunity to shine!
